SSA Travel Advisory
Steamship Authority Travel Advisory for Sunday, December 7, 2014 The National Weather Service is currently predicting sustained winds of 30 knots and gusts up to 45 knots out of the northeast for Nantucket on Sunday. Adverse weather and sea conditions could affect high speed passenger service when travelers are returning from Christmas Stroll Weekend on Nantucket. Accordingly, on Sunday, the Steamship Authority will run the M/V Nantucket (with a passenger capacity of 752) in place of the M/V Sankaty (with a passenger capacity of only 290). Trips with the M/V Nantucket will be leaving Nantucket at 9:15 AM and 2:45 PM in addition to the regularly scheduled departures of the M/V Eagle (with a passenger capacity of 799) at 6:30 AM, 12 Noon and 5:30 PM, weather permitting. We suggest that travelers check the Authority’s website at www.steamshipauthority.com for any travel alerts about service cancellations, or call the Authority’s customer service office at (508) 477-8600.
The M/V Sankaty will provide service between Woods Hole and Martha’s Vineyard in place of the M/V Nantucket for most of the day on Sunday. Extra trips with the M/V Katama will also be provided starting at 4:00 PM from Woods Hole to make up for the loss of vehicle-carrying capacity associated with the temporary reassignment of the M/V Nantucket to the Nantucket route. All vessels are expected to be back in position to resume their normal schedules on Monday morning.
